The Sant Antoni festival in Pollença is one of the most anticipated winter celebrations in Mallorca. Every January, locals and visitors gather in the historic centre of Pollença to experience days filled with fire, tradition and the sound of Xeremias, centred around one of the island’s most unique customs: the Pi de Sant Antoni.
Bonfires in Pollença – Night of January 16th
The Sant Antoni celebrations in Pollença begin on the night of January 16th, when streets and squares are lit by traditional bonfires (foguerons). Friends and families come together around the fire to share food, wine and conversation.
Typical Mallorcan food plays a central role during these nights, especially sobrassada, botifarrons and the much-loved espinagades, enjoyed in a warm and festive atmosphere.
The Blessing of Animals in Pollença
On January 17th, the feast day of Saint Anthony the Abbot, one of the most touching traditions takes place: the blessing of animals in Pollença. Residents and visitors walk through the streets of the town centre with their pets, ending at the church where all animals are blessed, preserving a deeply rooted Mallorcan tradition.

After the blessing, the sound of the Xeremias leads the procession to the Ternelles estate, where the Pi de Sant Antoni is prepared. The pine tree usually reaches around 20 metres in height, making it an impressive symbol of the celebration.
The tree is transported to the centre of Pollença by the young people of the town, who pull it down using large ropes in a powerful act of collective effort and community spirit.
Once in the village, the pine is placed in the Plaça Vella, where the young participants attempt to climb it, creating one of the most exciting and eagerly awaited moments of the festival.
